About the Owner  

     Joan is a highly skilled seamstress who has been sewing since childhood.  From 1984-1987 she earned a Bachelors Degree from Framingham State University in Clothing And Textiles and is skilled in pattern drafting, draping and clothing design.

     She worked for two years at a bridal salon, Country Weddings, in central Massachusetts before establishing her own dress making business “Personal Bridal Concepts” creating custom made gowns for brides, bridesmaids, flower girls, and all specialty occasions.  Joan also provided alterations for women's, mens', and children’s wear.

On August 1st, 2018, Joan assumed ownership of Sew Special at 2442 Boston Road in Wilbraham from Margaret Waugh, who decided to retire after 18 years. Margaret has a stellar reputation for quality work and is delighted that Joan is will to continue that tradition of providing quality alterations and bridal wear.

     Joan has been living in Western Massachusetts since 2007 and recently opened  up shop again.  Tip Top Alterations is the name of her new venture.      

     Joan has three grown children and resides with her husband Ted on their small farm with their horses, dogs, and birds. Joan is active with her Church and cherishes her time with family and grandchildren and enjoys horseback riding, sewing, gardening, and outside activities.
